P3 & P4 Maths Tuition in Upper Thomson

Primary 3 and 4 are where the foundations of PSLE Maths are laid. Times tables, fractions and the first model drawings all arrive in these two years, and almost every later topic builds on them. A child who is secure in P3 and P4 meets P5 with confidence; a child with small gaps here often finds P5 suddenly hard, without knowing why. At KnowledgeTrail, we make sure those foundations are firm, and that your child enjoys Maths along the way.

What We Cover

  • Whole numbers — place value, the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables, and the four operations in multi-step word problems.

  • Fractions and decimals — equivalent fractions, mixed numbers, fractions of a set, and decimals from P4.

  • Model drawing — the bar model method that turns a word problem into a picture, the most useful tool in primary maths.

  • Measurement and geometry — money, time, length, area and perimeter, angles, symmetry, and reading tables and graphs.

Where Students Lose Marks — and How We Fix It

In P3 and P4, most lost marks come from three places: times tables that are not yet automatic, careless slips in working, and word problems where a child is unsure how to start. We build fluency through short, regular practice, teach neat and labelled working from the very first lesson, and show students how to draw a model before they calculate, so a long word problem becomes a picture they can solve.

How We Teach

Our classes are small, so we can see every child's working and spot a gap the moment it appears, whether that's regrouping in subtraction, comparing fractions or setting up a model. Lessons mix clear explanation with hands-on activities and plenty of practice, so ideas stick. Students who continue with us move smoothly into our P5 Maths and P6 PSLE Maths programmes.

KnowledgeTrail has taught primary maths in Upper Thomson since 2010, serving families across Thomson Ridge, Bishan, and Ang Mo Kio.

“Mr Tan has been teaching my boys for 4 years now, with 2 getting AL1 for PSLE. He's very patient, and explains the workings in details, cracking a joke or 2 along the way to make classes enjoyable.”
